PM SHRI School (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) is a prestigious centrally sponsored scheme launched by the Government of India with the vision to transform and uplift the quality of school education across the nation. This visionary initiative aims to develop over 14,500 model schools across the country that are managed by Central Government, State Governments, Union Territories, and local bodies, including well-known educational institutions like Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS). The core idea behind the PM SHRI scheme is to create exemplary schools that not only impart quality education but also embody the true spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These schools will serve as “Lighthouse Institutions”, showcasing how holistic, inclusive, and student-centered education can be effectively implemented and replicated throughout India.
PM SHRI Schools are designed to be inclusive spaces where every child feels welcomed, safe, respected, and inspired. These schools will provide a stimulating and enriching learning environment supported by modern teaching methods, innovative pedagogy, and a strong focus on foundational literacy, numeracy, and competency-based education. The emphasis will also be on integrating local culture, language, values, and life skills in the curriculum, ensuring a well-rounded development of each student.

In terms of infrastructure, PM SHRI Schools will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including smart classrooms, science and computer labs, libraries, vocational education spaces, and clean, green, sustainable campuses. These schools will also ensure adequate and accessible resources to support learning for all students, including those from marginalized and rural communities. The scheme aims to nurture students into thoughtful, engaged, and productive citizens who can contribute meaningfully to building an equitable, inclusive, and pluralistic society, aligning with the broader national goals of unity in diversity and social harmony. It is expected that over 20 lakh students will directly benefit from the PM SHRI scheme. Moreover, the learnings and best practices developed through these schools will serve as a blueprint for education reform, influencing policy-making and inspiring transformation in schools across the country.

The implementation timeline of the PM SHRI scheme spans five years, starting from the academic year 2022–23 to 2026–27. During this period, schools will be developed in a phased and sustainable manner, with continuous monitoring, evaluation, and capacity building of school leaders and teachers. Ultimately, PM SHRI Schools aim to redefine the future of education in India—by not only setting new benchmarks in academic achievement but also by preparing learners for life, citizenship, and meaningful contribution to a progressive India.
